Feeding, Batch-counting, Barcode Verification, and Bundle Stacking of Blister Cards

Application Details

A large printing company division of a multi-billion dollar corporation sought out an automation solution for the fulfillment process of barcode verifying blister cards. The existing process was to utilize a large carton folder to feed the various size blister cards, verify the barcodes, divert incorrect codes, and repackage cards for shipment to their customer. In order to achieve the 100% inspection of the barcodes and ensure the correct SKU version of codes were packaged and shipped to the customer, this printer was utilizing a $400,000 carton folding system that was approximately 70 feet in length. Their objective was to free up this system for use on higher value carton folding production and significantly reduce the foot print required for blister card verification.

The solution chosen was a VeriStar System which was configured to feed, count, barcode verify and stack in bundles of 50 cards per set at a rate of over 25,000 per hour. This VeriStar System configuration included the XM-81 High-Speed Continuous Feeder, Champion Vacuum Belt Transport, Divert Module, Batching Catch Tray, High Speed Barcode Scanner, and VeriStar PLC Controller.

The above VeriStar System configuration cost under $25,000, required less than 8 feet of floor space, and was easily rolled around the facility as needed for each production process.

The VeriStar System as shown can run products 2" x 3" up to 12" x 12", (smaller and larger formats are available) and from single sheet thickness to 3/4" thickness. VeriStar Systems can be configured to run off-line or in-line, and can include multiple styles of readers, scanners, inspection, and verification modules. VeriStar Systems can also include diverts, data collection, data output, and can be interfaced with any style printing, mailing, and packing system.
